Meet the mythical Apoxyomenos (Apoksiomen)
Meet the Croatian Apoxyomenos – a bronz statue of a young athlete Apoxyomenos created in the 2nd or 1st century BC in Greece – who was lost and then found at the bottom of the sea near the island of Lošinj. Discovered by a Belgian tourist diver in the 90s, it is believed to have been thrown off the ship in the mids of a sea storm while travelling from Greece to its new owner. After it was raised from the sea it was extensively restored and later displayed for the public. He is now home in the Museum of Apoxyomenos in Mali Lošinj, just minutes away from our hotel.
